Besides providing a gunman to the witness in the land scam, the police also assigned two policemen to ensure the safety of his mother, Akkayyamma, residing in Bandi Kodigahalli.
Ramanjanappa’s life has been under threat ever since he had approached the Lokayukta in connection with the KIADB land scam. The Lokayukta police had filed five cases against a few KIADB officials, which resulted in the suspension of four officers.
Jagdish offered to bribe Ramanjanappa, which led to the former’s arrest.
“I have already been threatened by the land grabbers, and once I was even assaulted. I know that I will get into trouble in future. But, I don’t care. I want justice to the farmers,” Ramanjanappa said.
He further said that a few men visited Bandi Kodigehalli, near Devanahalli on Monday night and warned the villagers against revealing anything about the scam to the Lokayukta. Some of the villagers gave their statements regarding the threat to Lokayukta on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, about 53 farmers from Bandi Kodigehalli village on Tuesday met special deputy commissioner of Bangalore North and North (additional) taluks and submitted to him their land documents.
The special deputy commissioner had served notices on the farmers after the local tahsildar said that he did not have land documents of several farmers from the village.
The farmers were asked to prove the ownership of their land.
“We have submitted documents like mutation, record of rights, tenancy and cultivation and title deeds. How can they say that these documents are not available in the tahsildar’s office?” asked a farmer.
