Opposition members on Wednesday stayed away from the first meeting of the house committee constituted by assembly speaker KG Bopaiah to probe the porn-clip episode involving former ministers Krishna Palemar, Lakshman Savadi and
CC Patil.

The seven-member committee headed by BJP MLA Shailappa Bidarur has four members from BJP, two from Congress and one from JD(S). HC Mahadevappa, Amaregouda Bayyapur of Congress and Dinakara Shetty of JD(S) stayed away from the meeting, raising doubts about the credibility of the probe being conducted by the committee with just BJP members involved in the probe. While the Congress and JD(S) members have already announced their decision to quit the panel, Bidarur said he had not received any communication in this regard.

“I will write to them again to participate in the proceedings of the probe panel to help it conduct a fair probe and punish the guilty,” he said.

He stated that the next meeting of the probe panel would be held on February 29 and the three members from the opposition parties would be invited to attend it.
