Six of the 15 bungalows coming up as part of the first phase of Judges Colony in Hebbal, would be completed by December.

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda announced this after inaugurating a unit of the colony on Wednesday. Supreme Court justice HL Dattu and Karnataka high court chief justice JS Khehar were also present on the occasion.

Gowda said, “About six houses would be handed over by December 8 and the rest would be completed in a few months after that.”

The Rs55-crore project is being executed by the public works department on the land belonging to Karnataka Agro Industries Corporation. Each bungalow will be two-storeyed and spread across 2, 040 sq m. The luxury villas have sprawling lawns, four large bedrooms. Arrangements have also been made to accommodate security staff and other attendants.

The colony was first planned to come up in HSR Layout, but the welfare association there filed a litigation pleading that the civic amenity land earmarked for Judges Colony served as a playground to children from over 10,000 families.

A high court division bench headed by justice Khehar then directed the state government to identify an alternate site for the project. The state then identified the land in Hebbal.
