The Karnataka high court on Wednesday quashed proceedings in a lower court against former director-general and inspector-general of police C Dinakar. The proceedings had been launched pursuant to a complaint filed against Dinakar by another former DGP, S Krishnamurthy.

The lower court had on March 7 taken cognisance of the complaint against Dinakar by  Krishnamurthy and ordered that legal process be initiated.  In his complaint on December 18, 2004,  Krishnamurthy said Dinakar had accused him of having shot a construction worker Murugan following a dispute over money and had ‘leaked’ to the media the letters he had written to the home minister. Krishnamurthy said Murugan was shot dead by a guard when the victim attempted to burgle his house in Sanjaynagar. He alleged that Dinakar had defamed him by ‘leaking’ the contents of the letter to the media.

Justice KN Keshavanarayana quashed proceedings, observing the case had been dragging for a long time.
