It is almost certain that from November 1, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, the state will not officially hoist the yellow and red flag, which is promoted by a pro-Kannada organisation.
The government said it would recall the circular to hoist the two-colour flag on November 1.

The bench headed by chief justice Vikramajit Sen was hearing a petition filed by city-based advocate Prakash Shetty who contended that Narayana Gowda, president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, had been misusing the flag (two-colour) for promoting the organisation and also for personal reasons.
Shetty contended that Gowda violated rules by putting his organisation’s name in the flag and placing his photo beside Kuvempu’s photo.

Shetty contended that although the flag did not have official status, it had become a tradition to hoist it on November 1, the day to commemorate the unification of the state.

The state government had informed the court that in a budgetary announcement, it had issued a circular to all district administration to hoist the two-colour flag on Rajyotsava. However, the government advocate informed the high court on Thursday that the state had decided to hold a cabinet meeting soon to decide on recalling the circular.

In view of the submissions made by the state government, the division bench adjourned the case.
