Battlelines are drawn for a triangular fight for the by-election from Koppal assembly constituency as BJP candidate Karadi

Sanganna filed his nomination papers in the presence of chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday as the party nominee.
Former MLA Basavaraj Hitnal is the Congress candidate and the JD(S) is fielding 30-year-old Pradeep Patil.

The by-poll has been necessitated by the resignation of Saganna Karadi as the JD(S) MLA to join the BJP as part of Operation Lotus in March.

This is the 20th bypoll being held after the BJP came to power in the state and 14 of them were a result of the Operation Lotus. The remaining six bypolls were necessitated due to death of the sitting member or election of the incumbent MLA to Lok Sabha.

The polling will be held on September 26. Chief minister Sadananda Gowda told the media on the occasion that the BJP was confident of winning the seat.
