A day after a 17-year-old girl was whipped by her employer, rescued by an advocate and admitted to a juvenile home, her parents approached her and pleaded with her to return home. But the girl bluntly refused.

The teenage girl was whipped by her employer’s son Zafeer, 26, on Friday, for eating boondi without permission, after which she ran away and a good Samaritan took her to a juvenile home.
The girl was sent to work in the house when she was 11. She was paid a paltry monthly wage of `500, which her father religiously collected every month.

On Saturday, the girl said that she felt safe at the juvenile home rather than with her parents.

Tasina Taj, the girl’s mother said: “On Friday, when my daughter was at the police station, I called her home. But my daughter refused. She said that she would neither come home nor go to her employer’s house.”

“We promised her that she will not be sent to work again. But, my daughter was still not convinced. She said that she would like to stay at the juvenile home,” Taj added.

“We should not have let our daughter work. She did tell us many times that she is being beaten by the employer. When we asked them to send her home, they gave excuses and forcibly kept her in the house. Now, we would like our daughter to come home... She said that she would think about it,” Taj said.

Meanwhile, police arrested Zafeer on Friday night, who has now been released on bail. However, inspector M Nagaraj said that he is not sure whether Zafeer is out on bail or in judicial custody.
“We took the girl to Zafeer’s house and seized some objects that Zafeer had used to beat up the girl. The family members were also questioned,” police said.

All the items that belonged to the girl was packed and sent to the juvenile home.
