The battleground has been readied at the prestigious Bangalore South constituency with the most hyped candidate of the Congress, Krishna Byre Gowda, filing his nomination on Saturday afternoon.

The gala for the birthday-boy Krishna’s nomination was a pompous one, which even went on to violate the moral code of conduct with cadres holding banner and raising slogans right outside the Jayanagar Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office when the man of the moment was about to arrive. He received a grand welcome by the supporters and party workers in front of the BBMP office where the nomination papers were to be filed.

In contrast, the other two main candidates had a quiet nomination which did not even wake up the neighbours. Even the nomination of his main opponent, HN Ananth Kumar, of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) too did not match up to the showbiz of Krishna.

Krishna was accompanied by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president DK Shivakumar.

Over 1,000 party workers, who gathered at the Jayanagar BBMP office, held up the banner wishing him on his birthday and raising slogans like “vote for Congress”, “vote for Rahul Gandhi”, “vote for Krishna Byre Gowda” and so on. This nomination was a colourful one when compared to that of others like GR Gopinath, contesting as an Independent candidate who made a quiet entry.

JD(S) candidate KE Radhakrishna also filed his nomination at the BBMP office, but it was a silent affair. Kannada protagonist Vatal Nagaraj also filed his papers from the constituency during the day.

Krishna owns more land than money
Bangalore South constituency Congress candidate Krishna Byre Gowda’s pro-farmer reputation is intact even in his assets declared in the affidavit filed during his nomination on Saturday afternoon.

The “farming boy” of Vemgal in Kolar districts inherits 83.8 acres of agricultural land worth Rs84 lakh. His other assets are a little over Rs90, 00,000 much lesser than his techie wife Meenakshi Seshadri.

His techie wife’s savings and apartments amount to over Rs1 crore. Seshadri also has two saving accounts in the US with over Rs45 lakh in them.

Though the highly educated couple flaunts total assets worth Rs2, 12, 64,223, a loan cuts into a big pie, bringing down the actual assets to Rs1,46,64,263 making him the least richest among his four rivals.

JD(S) candidate KE Radhakrsihna, who filed his papers on Saturday, declared assets worth Rs1,55,92,572.
