Dubbing the allegations levelled against him by JD(S) leader HD Revanna that his family members purchased land worth Rs 1,000 crore in benami names as "baseless", Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa today said he would quit and take 'sanyas' from politics if the charges are proved.

"Let Revanna give me documentary evidence within 24 hours to prove his allegations. I will resign as chief minister and also take political sanyas," the Karnataka chief minister declared at a function to mark the inauguration of a community hall and a high school building here.

Revanna, son of former Prime Minister HD Devegowda, had yesterday claimed that he had documents regarding purchase of Rs1,000 crore worth of lands in benami names in Shimoga district and in and around the city by Yeddyurappa and his family members.

"My family has not purchased lands in benami names. The allegations are baseless and aimed to mislead people. If Revanna has documents, let him submit it to Lokayukta, the court or to me", Yeddyurappa, who has been locked in a wordy duel with the Devegowda family, said.

He asked Gowda and also the opposition Congress to wait for another two-and-a half years and face the electorate, "who would decide who should rule and who should go home."

The Congress has no experience in working as opposition and the party had to "wait for at least another 15 to 20 years to regain power," he said.
