The advocate fraternity of Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) organised a farewell for Chief Justice JS Khehar at the Karnataka High Court on Monday.

The function began soon after judge Vikramajit Sen took oath. Judge Sen from Delhi High Court is likely to be the next chief justice once the President of India, Pratibha Patil, sends her official confirmation.

At the farewell, chief justice Khehar, said, “I have come here with blessings and will be going back with blessings.  Karnataka is rich in cultural heritage. My chosen god is Lord Shiva. I found him here.”

He further added that he did not know about issues such as mining until he came to Karnataka.

On the security measures in the court, he said, “It needed a Delhi blast to keep us moving on security. The judges are not experts on security. If we don’t listen to the police and something bad happens, the fault is ours.”

Khehar remarked that he loved the litigations here. “They were challenging,” he said.

Judge Sen said, “Everything that is asked of a judge should be administered without fear and within the purview of the law. Favourable judgments should not be given in spite of compulsions.”

He further said that he did not want to leave Delhi high court in the wake of circumstances after the Delhi bomb blast. He also said that the chief justice of India had given instructions to beef up the security in the courts.

Sen added that he will discharge his duties with strength, diligence, and humility.

After a brief photo shoot, Justice Khehar departed to Delhi.
