Head injuries found on murdered Rajamma, 46, made investigators suspect that she had been attacked with a blunt object.
Deputy commissioner of police (South) Sonia Narang said a post-mortem examination would reveal further details, including whether the woman had been sexually assaulted.
The crime scene suggested such an assault.
Investigators were suspecting that someone known to the woman could have murdered her.
“There are no signs of forcible entry into the house,” the officer said, adding that Rajamma’s jewellery, except earrings, was found untouched.
Rajamma had been living with her son Kiran following the death of her husband Basavareddy, an LIC agent, a year ago.
Police said Kiran was attending a friend’s wedding in Hassan district’s Harasikere when his mother was murdered. Rajamma’s daughter Navya, now pregnant, has been living with her husband in Bidadi since her wedding in 2007. She had been with her mother for a few days before returning to her husband a week ago.
The murder came to light after a relative visited Rajamma’s place around 5.30 pm. Kiran asked him to visit the house since the woman did not attend to repeated phone calls since Friday morning.
Kiran reportedly told the police that he had spoken with his mother over the phone on Thursday, Rajamma’s wedding anniversary.
Police registered a case following Navya’s complaint and were investigating.
Rajamma was a native of Koodlu near Yelahanka. She had been living in Uttarahalli, but shifted to Jambu Savari Dinne eight months ago.
