HD Kumaraswamy threatens Yeddyurappa with defamation suit

Reacting to HDK’s statement, state BJP chief KS Eshwarappa said, 'In the democratic set up, every one is free to move the court. If Kumaraswamy wants to file a suit against us, we are ready to face it legally. We stick to our stand that Gowda & Sons acquired property worth Rs1,500 crore through illegal means.'

Former chief minister and JD(S) state president HDK Kumaraswamy on Tuesday  threatened that he would slap defamation suits on chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, state BJP chief KS Eshwarappa and BJP national leader Nirmala Sitaram for releasing a ‘chargesheet’ alleging that the former chief minister and his family had illegally acquired  wealth to the tune of Rs1,500.

Kumaraswamy said, “I have decided to file defamation suits against the CM and others. I have discussed the matter  with legal experts. I will also file a case against the Rastrothana Parishat for printing the ‘chargesheet’.”

“Making allegations is easy; actually facing them is tough. The BJP has tarnished my family, and now claims the allegations were political. Why should the BJP release a ‘chargesheet’? It should pay the price for making such false charges and attempting to misleading the public. Only after the defamation suit is filed will people come to know that the allegations are false,” Kumaraswamy said.

On his much-hyped fast, he said, “I decided to end the fast on the request of intellectuals and party workers. There is nothing to hide. I am not afraid of any one. But our fight against the state government will continue. People will not forgive their misdeeds. The  BJP government will be taught a lesson in the next elections.”

Reacting to the allegations made by KPCC chief G Parameshwar that Gowda and Yeddyurappa met secretly and come to an understanding to end the verbal war, he said, “We follow some policies in politics. There is no need for Gowda and Sons to meet chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and come to a compromise, that is what some Congress leaders do.”
