Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s comments comparing the discussion in the ongoing state legislature to arguments in an arrack shop, caused a furore in the assembly on Wednesday with BJP members moving a privilege motion seeking appropriate action against the JD(S) leader.

Even as the opposition members were shouting slogans against the BJP government accusing it of looting thousands of crores of rupees, ruling party members moved a breach of privilege motion against Kumaraswamy.

The privilege motion moved by BJP members Suresh Gowda, Nandeesh Reddy, MP Kumaraswamy and Siddu Savadi was later forwarded to the speaker of the Lok Sabha by the speaker as Kumaraswamy is an MP.  The request for referring the motion to the Lok Sabha speaker was moved by law minister S Suresh Kumar.

In the legislative council too, a similar privilege motion was moved against Kumaraswamy. BJP MLC Madhusudhan moved the motion, calling Kumaraswamy a political terrorist.

HDK welcomes motion
Kumaraswamy, however, welcomed the privilege motion moved in the state legislature. He said the comment was made intentionally and with responsibility.

He repeated his comments that the assembly has been turned into an ‘arrack shop’ by the BJP. “I am ready to depose before the privileges committee, if called. I will use that opportunity to highlight the alleged corruption and wrongdoing by the BJP,” he said.
