The king of ghazals, Ghulam Ali, a Pakistani exponent of the Patiala gharana, weaved magic with his golden voice to the delight of ghazal lovers who came to hear the maestro.

As he began the concert with Main khayal hoon kisi aur ka, mujhe sochta koi aur hai, the crowd cheered him amid cries “wah, wah”.

He enthralled the audience with the subtle variations of Awaargee.

Among the audience was Congress leader Jaffer Sheriff who seemed to enjoy the songs as he kept humming them. Another fan who came to hear Ali was additional commissioner of traffic and security MA Saleem. As he sat soaked in the melody, other traffic officials had a tough time, earlier, as ghazal lovers in cars were jostling for space on Bellary Road to reach the venue first.

The best moment of the concert was when the maestro sang Dil me ek leher se uthi hai abhi. The crowd was so mesmerized by the music that they forgot to utter the “wah wah”.

Ume Hani, a house wife, shed tears of joy after listening to that number. The audience also had a chance to relish Ghulam Ali’s all-time hit Chupke chupke.
