President of the All India Congress Committee, Sonia Gandhi, vowed to bring her party back to power and restore Karnataka’s glory by defeating the BJP. She was addressing a gathering of ministers at the Birla Auditorium in Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur on Saturday.

She said the BJP shows double standards regarding corruption and is not utilising the funds released by the state. Sonia claimed that the UPA government had released `98,000 crore for all BJP-ruled states, in the last four years, which is the highest in history and is double the amount that the NDA government released for the state.

She explained that pressure on the state government would lead to the proper utilisation of the funds released by the centre. She added that the BJP government is playing cheap politics by projecting all central government programmes as theirs. She pointed fingers at the BJP and said that it is preventing UPA on creating a strong Lokpal Act by making use of its numbers in Rajya Sabha.

“Ours is the only party which will never compromise on secular values,” Sonia said.

She said: “Goodwill exists among the people about the Congress and it is up to the leaders and party workers to convert it into votes.” The Chikmaglur-Udupi Lok Sabha election victory is an example of the fact that people want change and she hopes that it would revive the Congress party in Karnataka.

“Unfortunately, the Congress had not come to power in the state and this is the time for us to prove. The assembly elections are a year away and there is no time to lose,” she said.
