A Bangalore city police head constable’s efforts at preventing his son from entering the crime world proved futile with the latter nursing an ambition to emerge as the “don” of Bangalore’s underworld.

And so intense was the ambition of this policeman’s 20-year-old son Vikram alias Vicky (a BCA student) that once he had his gang members in place, he launched into the world of crime, committing as many as seven crimes in just 11 days from January 27 to February 7, when he was arrested.

Had Vicky’s ambitions been realised, it could have been yet another case of a son of a policeman becoming an infamous don—after the now-absconding key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Dawood Ibrahim.

But he was arrested by the Magadi Road police along with nine of his gang members, some of them juveniles, in the first week of February when they were attempting to commit a dacoity.
It was during preliminary interrogations that the police learnt that Vicky is the son of a serving police head constable (name withheld), who left no stone unturned to ensure that his son stayed away from the world of crime.

Magadi Road police said the head constable had even gone to the extent of changing his house three times from one area to the other to keep his son away from bad company. But the desperate father’s efforts failed.

Vicky’s father had got him admitted to a reputed school near Richmond Circle.

Despite his father’s efforts, Vicky befriended youngsters who also dreamt about making it big in the world of crime, and they found an able leader in him after he expressed his desire to them of becoming the don of Bangalore’s underworld.

The seed to realise his ambition was sown in Chorupalya area of Bangalore some years ago when he was introduced to some of his future gang members-to-be by a local rowdy.

There was no looking back. They planned everything out until January 26, when they realised that they had to begin with a car to carry out their criminal activities, which mainly included robberies, dacoities and extortion. So, on January 27, they stopped an SUV on Mysore Road, asking for a drop. They then threatened the driver with his life before beating him up and throwing chilli powder in his eyes and throwing him out. Then they made away with the car worth `3.54 lakh, which was seized by the Magadi Road police when they arrested Vicky and his cronies.
