The Election Commission (EC) has invited objections before registering MLA B Sriramulu’s new political party. As hinted earlier, it is Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress (BSRC) Party, sounding similar to the YSR Congress launched by his friend YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh. The objections must be filed within 30 days from January 3 along with the reasons for the objections.

Though Sriramulu is the party boss, he will not be its president. His name has not been mentioned in the proposal to register the new party in Bellary.

However, there is no doubt as to who heads the party as Sriramulu had already announced that he would name his party as  Badavara Shramikara Raitara party a couple of weeks ago, with plans to begin a state-wide tour from January 15. He has also inaugurated Sriramulu fans’ association in Bijapur.

The addition of the word ‘Congress’ to his Badavara Shramikara Raitara party has fuelled speculations of a possible tie-up with the Congress in the future. However, Sriramulu is keeping his cards close to his chest by stating that his party would espouse the cause of the poor, working class and farmers. It will have an open mind on joining hands with like-minded parties such as the JD(S).

People of Bellary, Sriramulu’s political backyard, feel that chances of anyone from the district filing objections against the party is remote, considering the clout he enjoys in the district.

K Suresh, Kondaiah, Raghavendra and Basavalingappa are the party’s president, vice-president, general secretary and treasurer, respectively.
