Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs1 lakh for the family of CR Nalina, who died during the fire drill at Bombay Rayon Fashions Ltd (BRFL) on Friday.

The company declared holiday on Saturday to mourn Nalina’s death. Meanwhile, the police have booked a case of negligence against the BRFL and the fire department officials. An investigating officer said they would question all the officials of the fire department who were present during the drill.

The police said they had to provide security for the company on Saturday as they had learnt that more than 1,000 employees were planning to stage protest over the authorities’ negligence, which claimed Nalina’s life. An investigating officer said they were at the company till evening and recorded statements of a few employees. The officials then went to Chattivanahalli near Gowribidanur to take part in final rites of Nalina. A detailed investigation into the incident will start on Sunday.
