Veteran actor Feroz Khan wished to spend the last years of his life at the sprawling farmhouse at Dasanapura Hobli, off Tumkur Road. Located about 40-km away from Bangalore, the farmhouse was built for Rs40 lakh in Chikkabidarakallu village in Feroz Khan Estate. Covering about 12 to 14 acres, it was used for the shooting of his biggest hit, Qurbani. Even as he was battling cancer in Breach Candy hospital, Feroz’s undying love for animals, especially horses, brought him back to Bangalore last week.

Sharukh Mistry of Mistry Architects, who had designed the house, remembered Feroz Khan as an ardent lover of horses. He said, “The farmhouse was very dear to him. He used to take personal interest in all decisions pertaining to design, colour, and outdoor spaces.” Feroz was very keen on shooting Qurbani in the farmhouse. “We were working day in and day out to finish the project before the shoot. It took about 10 months to finish the construction,” he said.

The farmhouse has a special billiards room, a swimming pool and a stable, apart from some fabulous works of design.

Mistry also remembered the time when he saw Qurbani. “It was thrilling to see the farmhouse in the movie. There was an existent structure there which we altered to suit what we wanted.” To him, Feroz was also a very caring person. “It was an amazing experience designing the house nearly 25 years back. There were no houses on that road in those days and we had no mobile phones then. Once, it was very late by the time I left for home from the site. My wife was worried and she called him. Before I could reach home, he had called my family to make sure whether I had reached home safely.”
