Customers at a tony restaurant in Indiranagar had a narrow escape when a portion of the false ceiling at a restaurant came off in the afternoon on Friday.

The incident occurred around 2.45 pm but the management claimed that there were no serious injuries, as most customers were at the buffet counter.

The place was shut down for a ‘thorough check’ immediately after the incident, the management claimed.

A witness at the restaurant said one of the customers had to be taken to Manipal Hospital.

Police said that they are yet to find out the reason for the collapse of the false ceiling, which fell on the customers along with a part of an air-conditioning duct.  No case has been registered, as there have been no complainants yet.

The manager of the hotel, who requested anonymity, said, “It was just a minor issue which was made big. The situation is under control now, and the injured have been taken to hospital.”

“The work on the false ceiling was done four years ago. Some finishing touches had to be incorporated. Perhaps, the weight on the decorative pieces that were attached might have ripped off the ceiling,” police said.
