Deploring his plans to meet Reddy in Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad, Tapal Ganesh, a staunch opponent of the Reddy brothers, said he would quit if the party failed to expel them.
He also demanded action against Renukacharya if he meets Reddy. Ganesh, who joined BJP after Janardhana Reddy was jailed in connection with the illegal mining case, expressed shock at the efforts being made by former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s loyalists to woo Janardhana Reddy.
“The Reddy brothers, who have looted mineral resources worth thousands of crores of rupees in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, should be expelled from the party,” Ganesh said, adding: “When BJP leaders including LK Advani were at the forefront of a nation-wide campaign against corruption, it was not right to have people like Reddy brothers in the party.”
They should be expelled immediately as their continuance in the party would further erode the party’s image, he said.
Recalling his decision to join the BJP, Ganesh said: “Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, BJP state president KS Eshwarappa and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa had personally invited me to join the party after Reddy was jailed. They said they needed people like me to join the party to strengthen its base in Bellary and surrounding districts as the reign of the Reddys had ended in Bellary. I joined BJP by trusting them.”
Ganesh urged Eshwarappa to clarify on the party’s stand on the efforts under way to woo Janardhana Reddy by those close to Yeddyurappa.
“I will not continue even for a minute in the party if the overtures towards Reddys are not stopped immediately,” he said.
