Minister for primary and secondary education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri on Saturday said that the state government has not taken a final decision on setting up English-medium schools at hobli levels.

To develop competency among rural students, the government has shown keen interest in the project, but the final decision is yet to be taken.

“The opinions of all stake holders would be taken into consideration,” said Kageri.

Moreover, there has also been a demand from people in rural areas for setting up English medium schools at Hobli levels.

“Academic year 2011-12 started off with great gusto. As of now, there are no problems. The department has supplied textbooks to all aided, unaided, and private schools in the state. It has already distributed uniforms to government schools. There are no complaints about the mid-day meal schemes either,” said Kageri.

An education conference was recently held in the city, in which more than 600 officials participated. Various issues were discussed, including the atmosphere in government schools, changes in the education system, syllabus, and so on. “We have decided to bring about reforms in the system to provide superior quality of education,” he said.
