Launching a scathing attack on the Congress leadership at the Centre, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani on Tuesday linked corruption to dynastic rule.

At a public address as part of his Jan Chetna Yatra, he said, “The Congress did well for a brief period after Independence when Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was at the helm. Unfortunately, after that period, it became a family party.”

Advani said many economists and statesmen had predicted that India could become a world economic superpower after it attained Independence. “India remained backward even after six decades of Independence perhaps due to the dynastic rule,” he said.
On his last leg of Jan Chetna Yatra in Karnataka, the BJP patriarch said, “Just like good governance cannot co-exist with corruption, democracy and dynastic rule cannot co-exist. It is in fact the base for many corrupt practices.”

Advani reiterated his stand on black money stashed in overseas banks. “The black money stashed in tax havens was earned through corruption. The Congress is the main contributor to this social evil,” he said.

Advani once again demanded the UPA government to bring the names of people who have deposited black money in Swiss banks to the public domain. The Congress cannot shield people involved in amassing ill-gotten wealth, he said.
