11.01.11: That was considered an auspicious date by numerologists, and many couples hoped and prayed that their-yet-arrive baby would choose that day to emerge.

When some babies chose not to, there were parents who went in for caesarian section, just to ensure that the baby had an auspicious arrival date.

There was one supremely ‘lucky’ baby, delivered at 11am 01 minute 11 seconds at The Cradle. New-born Isa weighed 3kg, and is a healthy baby.

An excited father, Syed Imran Bukhari said, “Our family has faith in numerology. We had hoped that our baby would come at a good time, under numerology. Our first-born, Soha, was also born in the same hospital. We were looking for the possibility of delivery on an auspicious date for the past five weeks, and the support of Dr Kishore Kumar, CEO of this hospital, made our dream come true.”

Dr R Kishore Kumar, CEO & MD, Cradle, said, “We generally don’t encourage such requests, given that there might be adverse consequences. But if the delivery dates need to be shifted for one or two days, we sometimes allow it. Bigger adjustments, we just flatly refuse. Of the 14 babies born today, only three were normal deliveries.”

Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road saw eight births on Tuesday. Dr Praveena Shinoy said, “The craze for 11/01/11 birth date is just as great as it was for 01/01/11. The first delivery of the day took place around 8.30 am, and there were births right though the day to attend to.

“Of the eight deliveries on Tuesday, five were through caesarian section,” she said.

It’s extra work on auspicious dates for some: “All four obstetricians were busy. There were 17 deliveries here on January 1, so Tuesday was better,” Dr Shinoy said.
