The much-awaited counselling for Indian System of medicine courses (Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy) is scheduled to start on August 24-25.
However, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has not received any official communication from the Ayush department regarding the seat matrix.
“We are ready with all the necessary arrangements. Once we receive the seat matrix, we will conduct the counselling. But we have not yet received any official communication from any concerned departments. So, we are not sure of conducting the counselling on scheduled dates,” said a senior KEA official.
The counselling was supposed to be held on June 15-16. It was postponed due to the delayed approvals from Central Ayush department for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy.
About 12,000 candidates are eligible to take up Medical, Dental, and Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy courses this year. About 2,000 seats are available for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy.
Ayush department director Dr Srikantaiah told DNA that approvals have been received for 40 colleges.
“We are waiting for approvals to another 32 colleges,” he said.
Ayush department officials said that the Centre had given approvals for just 69 colleges across the nation. “When we enquired with them, they said that the deadline is till September and they will provide information only then,” said Srikantaiah.
Currently, 16 Ayurveda, three Unani and 11 Homeopathy colleges have received the seat matrix from the Centre.
Many students, who could not get Medical seats, are waiting for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy counselling.
“I wanted to do medicine. But I didn’t get a Medical seat. So, I’m waiting for Ayurveda counselling to be held,” said Aradhana, an Ayurveda seat aspirant.
KEA officials said that the Centre had also delayed its approvals for Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy courses in 2010. “Finally we got the seat matrix in August-end and conducted the counselling,” said an official.
