The policemen are supposed to haul up goons but on Saturday, two policemen in Shimoga roughed up each other, that too in the police station itself; they injured each other to such an extent that both had to be taken to hospital.

The two were hell-bent on tearing each other apart and were reaching for their weapons when their colleagues intervened and put an end to the fight. Amid all this, their uniforms too got torn.
The incident happened at Ripponpet police station. Constable Veeresh and sub-inspector Thippeswamy provided all the action. Sources said when the constable reached the police station, the sub-inspector was already there. The two got into an altercation, which snowballed into a brawl. Thippeswamy was piqued at Veeresh for ‘being insubordinate’ while Veeresh was reportedly furious at his senior for using foul language.

Sub-divisional police officer, HD Shekar, told DNA that he rushed to the police station upon learning about the incident at mid-morning. By the time he reached the police station, the constable and the sub-inspector had been sent to hospital for treatment of bruises.

Veeresh sustained a serious bruise on his face while Thippeswamy’s chest and face got wounded. Shekar said he called both to his office, counselled them and asked them to mend their ways. Although case was not filed against the two, they were given strict warning.

Shekar added that he filed a report about the incident to Raman Gupta, the superintendent of police. Gupta said that the deputy superintendent of police of Hosanagara sub-division had been asked to give a report about the incident, based on which decision on departmental inquiry would be taken.

Meanwhile, the staff at the Ripponpet police station confirmed that the sub-inspector indeed behaves arrogantly and uses foul language against his colleagues, particularly the juniors.

A source said as the constables are graduates, they are unwilling to take any insult lying down flung at them day-in and day-out, even if it comes from a superior.
