You got to give it to our netas. Apart from keeping the aam janta and the media occupied with their scams and scandals, they also light up dull days by trading blows in the public, like the incident in Chitradurga on Sunday.

Many people, who had gathered in Onake Obavva grounds on Gandhi Jayanti for an interaction programme organised by Congress top leaders, got lucky as they were treated to some freestyle wrestling by the local Congress workers as a factional fight broke out.

The warring groups traded blows at each other and the free-for-all went on for several minutes in front of the dias, right under Gandhiji’s portrait, even as leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwar looked on.
It all started with the welcome address. Chitradurga district Congress president Seturam, while reading out the address, missed taking the name of former Lok Sabha member P Kodandaramaiah who was present on the dias.

Kodandaramaiah’s supporters took serious objection to the lapse on part of Seturam and termed it as a deliberate act to insult Kodandaramaiah. The allegation evoked protest from Seturam’s supporters.

Soon the arguments led to a scuffle and then a full blown free-for-all as the Congress workers slapped and rained blows on each other. Two local Congress leaders including a Zilla Panchayat member were injured in the brawl.

The warring factions were separated after much struggle and the meeting resumed with Siddaramaiah launching a scathing attack on the BJP government.
