Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa may be showering praise on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, but the party is not prepared to show any softness towards him.

“Neither the Congress party nor its president requires any certification from anyone,” said party spokesperson Manish Tiwari.
Even as it looks at the BJP’s Karnataka discomfort with interest, the Congress is not inclined to make any move towards getting Yeddyurappa into its fold. “We have been criticising him for four years,” said an MP. “What is the point in becoming soft towards him now and accepting him into our party?”

The Congress denied that an emissary of Yeddyurappa had met any senior party leader to explore the possibility of some political settlement. It had been reported in a section of the media that Yeddyurappa’s confidant Shobha Karandlaje had met Congress leaders to seek some arrangement with the party.
