A Congress delegation led by KPCC president G Parameshwar called on chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Monday and accused the police of negligence. The delegation demanded a CID probe into the murder of Congress corporator S Nataraj.

The delegation submitted a memorandum, accusing the home department and police of failure to deal with anti-social elements. “A murder attempt was made on Congress corporator L Govindaraju in Malleswaram last June. But the police have not arrested the culprits even though they are roaming freely,” said the memorandum.

The delegation contended that Nataraj’s murder was politically motivated. He did not have a criminal background. “He was a gentleman and the murder of such people is a cause for worry as it is politically motivated. The case should be handed over to the CID for speedy investigation,” said the delegation.

Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao sought police security since Nataraj was his close confidant. He also sought security for Congress members in the BBMP as its members in Gandhinagar fear for their life, he said.

Police cover for Gundu Rao Home minister R Ashoka has said the killers would be arrested soon since the police have leads about the culprits. “The police have traced the killers. Their arrest is just a matter of time,” he said. Ashoka said the police have been instructed to give security cover to Rao and assured protection to other elected representatives.
