Riyaz Khan was jailed for six years for allegedly burgling houses and he continued to target them even after his release from prison. At last count, he and his accomplice, whom he met in jail, targeted 14 houses in two months.

Even after being arrested, Riyaz expressed his ‘passion’ for burglary and has vowed to continue with his deviant ways even after release from prison. Riyaz, 37, hails from Hassan, and has been arrested by the Vidyaranyapura police along with Musheer Khan, 41, of Hoskote.

Deputy commissioner of police (north) HS Revanna said 14 cases have been solved in various police limits with Riyaz’s arrest.

The police have recovered 1.5 kg gold ornaments, 55 grams silver articles, a motorcycle and a  mobile phone. The net worth of the recovered valuables is Rs47.39 lakh.

The police said Riyaz committed burglaries in Hassan and Shimoga. He burgled 26 houses in Hassan, Belur, Shimoga and Basavanahalli.

He was lodged in Hassan jail for six years and released after he was granted bail in February 2011.

He then shifted base to Bangalore and began burgling houses. Riyaz reportedly told the police that he would continue to target houses as long as his “hands and legs are healthy”.

Riyaz said he would not stop committing burglaries and the government must chop off his legs and hands if it wanted him to stop, said an investigating officer. “He also said the government should give him `5 lakh to invest in his business after he is ‘handicapped’,” he added.

The duo was arrested regarding a burglary registered in MS Palya. Riyaz and Musheer met in Hassan jail. Musheer is allegedly involved in 45 burglaries.
