Surprising the mining barons of Bellary, CBI officials continued their raids in Bellary, Torangallu and Hospet on Tuesday. While Monday’s raids drew a blank, the officials seized incriminating documents from the mine owners on Tuesday.

Among the documents seized were those related to lease agreements, transport permits for iron ore and quantum of iron ore extracted from the respective leased areas. CBI officials also found several illegalities in the documents.

The officials started their raid around 8 am in Hospet. While one team raided V Nagappa Mines (VNM) in Hospet taluk, the other visited the office of VNM located in Y Nagesha Shastrinagar, Bellary.

The next target was the home of Shanthamma, wife of V Jayaram, adopted son of Vadde Nagappa, VNM’s founder. Jayaram died of cardiac arrest when the Lok Ayukta and central empowered committee were preparing their reports on illegalities in mining. His son Mithaleshwara is heading the firm, whose lease area is in Hospet.

VNM is said to be a partner of Associated Mining Company headed by G Aruna Lakshmi, wife of G Janardhana Reddy.

Sources said they did not get many documents in the house raid.
The team of officials, who had been to Hospet, also visited the Integrated Logistic Company (ILC) office. ILC belongs to Somashekara Reddy, brother of Janardhana.

In the meantime, a team of sleuths raided Jindal steel plant in Toranagallu and collected incriminating documents. They collected details of the iron ore received by Jindal from AMC. It is said that Jindal received lakhs of tonnes of iron ore from AMC.

On Monday, when the officials visited the Jindal glasshouse, the administration reportedly told the officials not to search the place and that they would give whatever details the sleuths needed.
On Tuesday, the officials revisited the glasshouse and collected the details. Later, a team of official raided the office of Integrated Logistic Company (ILC).

As the operation ended, CBI officials came out carrying two big bags containing documents.
