Three drunken youngsters returning from a party died after their car rammed into a tree on Nagavara Ring Road in Hennur on Tuesday. Two others, part of a six-member group, were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at Nimhans. Another youth, who was also inside the car when the accident took place, sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicated the inebriated and playful youths, who partied at a dog kennel and breeding farm in Vaddarahalli, were trying to overtake other vehicles and made of fun of others while on their jolly ride. The accident occurred around 11.15 pm on Tuesday in front of BDA Park, near forest office in Hennur-Nagavara Ring Road. “Their car crashed after they had chased some vehicles for fun. The left side of the car was fully damaged in the accident,” said inspector HM Meenakshi of Banaswadi traffic police station.

The accident occurred when they tried to avoid a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The car toppled thrice before resting on the service road, the police said.

The deceased are identified as Shiva Kumar, 30, Anil Dominic, 21, and Shyam, 20. Shiva, who was driving the car, is a resident of Nagavara. Dominic and Shyam hail from Kannur. Shiva, a carpenter, was married and was living with his wife and four children. He had borrowed the car from his friend. Anil was an interior decorator and Shyam, a cab driver.

Vijay Kumar, 21, Infant Sunil alias Sunny (both residents of Kacharakanahalli) and Lawrence of Hennur were injured in the accident. Sunil sustained serious head injuries while Vijay’s condition is stated to be out of danger. Lawrence suffered minor injuries.

Vijay said he reached the party venue at 2 pm. Sunil, Lawrence and Shyam were already there when he reached. Shiva joined them around 4 pm followed by Anil. The party was over at 10.30. Vijay, a second year commerce student of New Baldwin College, told the police that they used to have liquor parties regularly.

“My son left home at 9.30 am on Tuesday. He had said that he was going for work. But we never expected that he will return home like this,” said, Ravi, father of Shyam.

“He called me at 10.15 pm and told me that he is returning home. But his friends forced him to accompany them. This is the first time Anil had gone out with his friends so late at night,” said Anil’s brother, Sunil.
