The land scam not only shook the BJP government, but also authorities at the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) whose officials were ordered by the chief minister to provide him with documents and records relating to denotification of lands for the past 10 years.

An official said that though the chief minister received all the necessary documents, BDA officials had to toil day and night as details were sought for 10 long years.

Yedyyurappa was forced to do this, after the opposition alleged that he was favouring his family members while denotifying certain lands.

“We received a message from the chief minister’s office to provide all the documents, regarding the denotification under various governments in the past 10 years," a BDA officer said. "We were specifically asked to provide details on denotification of lands done by the previous governments. The officers burnt midnight oil to find the documents as he wanted them within two days.”

Sources said that the chief minister had sought details regarding the beneficiaries in the allotment of G category sites, the number of CA sites sanctioned, and for whom and how many lands have been denotified by the previous government.

Sources said that Yeddyurappa wanted to hit back at the opposition leaders, particularly JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy for his allegations and silence him by producing the documents regarding the irregularities done during his government.

“The CM wanted to show the opposition that he too, has documents regarding the irregularities conducted by the previous government and also to send a clear message across, that they should not mess with him and his family.” a source said.
