Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa took his battle against governor HR Bhardwaj to Delhi on Sunday to prepare a strong case to ensure the latter’s ouster.

Yeddyurappa’s dash to Delhi comes in the wake of Bhardwaj’s report to the Union home ministry reportedly expressing concern at the law and order situation in the state after he gave his consent for prosecuting the chief minister.

Yeddyurappa, who consulted legal luminaries Ram Jethmalani and Fali S Nariman to give final touches to his battle strategy, also held discussions with BJP national leaders LK Advani and Arun Jaitley.

A huge BJP delegation, led by Advani and Jaitley and accompanied by state BJP MPs, is scheduled to meet president Pratibha Patil on Monday.

The delegation will  present a petition, with a huge volume of documents enclosed, to the president, and demand the immediate recall of the governor, accusing him of political bias against the BJP government and acting as a leader of opposition instead of functioning as constitutional head of the state.

Yeddyurappa, who was eager to lodge a complaint with Union home minister P Chidambaram highlighting Bhardwaj’s alleged acts of ‘disgrace’ to his post, was disappointed as Chidambaram was out of Delhi.

“I will come again to Delhi within a couple of to meet Chidambaram. I have a lot of issues to draw Chidambaram’s attention about Bhardwaj. I will make a strong demand to Chidambaram as to how the governor could call the democratically elected chief minister a thief based on some allegations. Such shameful acts of a governor cannot be condoned,” Yeddyurappa said.

“As the governor’s animosity towards me and the BJP government has been well documented, it is impossible for me to work with him. The Union government should immediately recall him in the interest of smooth functioning of the institutions of governor and state government. We will try to convince the president in this regard on Monday,” Yeddyurappa said.
