‘BS Yeddyurappa responsible for financial mess’

Opposition leader in the BBMP council, M Nagaraj, on Saturday alleged that chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was responsible for the financial mess in the civic body after he failed to provide Rs1,300 crore from the state budget.

He also rejected home minister R Ashoka’s claim that the BJP had given an opportunity to a SC woman for the mayor’s post. “The mayor’s post has been reserved for a woman from the SC community. Any party in power would have given the post to that community. The BJP should stop blowing its own trumpet by saying that it had provided the post to an SC woman,” Nagaraj said.

He said that the BJP had failed to form the business advisory committee (BAC) at the BBMP council. “The BJP criticised the opposition for protesting in the council meeting. But it’s the duty of the opposition to protest when the ruling party commits a mistake. It is our right to raise the voice when the ruling party goes in the wrong direction. We are protesting not for our personal issues, but for the development of the city,” he said.

Warning Sharadhamma that she should be wary of three senior BJP corporators, who may misguide her, he said that she should keep away from them. “I want to warn the mayor to maintain a distance from the three BJP corporators, who are responsible for the former mayor SK Nataraj’s poor performance. They will misguide you and bring a bad name for you,” he claimed.

Nagaraj also said that Rs60 crore had been spent for desilting of stormwater drains. “The recent flood during the rain has raised questions as to where the amount has been spent,” he said.
