It was a day when chief minister BS Yeddyurappa went on the offensive, declaring that he would list charges against his political rivals and initiate a trial before the people, the intellectuals, and the media.

He also later sought refuge in the divine, with a quick pilgrimage to an ancient shrine at Kalahasti near Tirupati.

The chief minister arrived in Renigunta, Andhra Pradesh, 30 km from the temple, by a special aircraft. He travelled the rest of the way by road.

Yeddyurappa said that he would soon print a booklet which would contain a chargesheet against former prime minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda, and also former chief ministers of the state, HD Kumaraswamy, N Dharam Singh, and SM Krishna. He said the booklet, to be printed in English and Hindi, would be ready for distribution to members of parliament during the budget session.

“Let leaders like Deve Gowda, Kumaraswamy and others level their allegations against me. I will answer all charges. They should also be ready to answer our questions. Let the trial happen before judges, intellectuals, and the media,” Yeddyurappa said, as he unleashed an attack on leaders of the opposition for what he termed their ‘hit-and-run tactics’.

The chief minister, bracing for turmoil in the days to come, later visited the ancient shrine of Sri Kalahasti near Tirupati. It was a two-hour pilgrimage trip, and a Rahu-Ketu pooja was performed (Rahu, in Vedic astrology, is a demon or asura, a master of manipulation).

Yeddyurappa also offered prayers to Lord Vayulingeshwara, presiding deity at the shrine.

Speaking to reporters after emerging from the temple, Yedduyrappa claimed that there was no crisis in Karnataka. He said he was utterly confident that his government would serve out its full term in office.
