Raising the pitch ahead of the Bellary Rural assembly by-poll, a combative BS Yeddyurappa, for the first time after his release from jail, launched a scathing attack on former minister Sriramulu and former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, on Wednesday.

An autocratic regime ruled Bellary for the past three-and-a-half years, said Yeddyurappa. Expressing displeasure over objections raised by Sriramulu's supporters during his Bellary road show on Tuesday, Yeddyurappa said Sriramulu’s ‘goondaism’ would be crushed. Sriramulu would be taught a lesson if he fails to mend his ways, said Yeddyurappa.

He said the people of Bellary were desperate to end the hold of Reddy brothers in the district. Sriramulu, who is on a high-voltage campaign in the constituency, said the former chief minister had been raising the pitch as he feared a defeat for the BJP.

“Yeddyurappa is feeling helpless as he is sensing defeat,” said Sriramulu. Yeddyurappa also trained his guns on former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde. Accusing Hegde of political bias in preparing the report on illegal mining, Yeddyurappa threw four posers for Hegde to prove his impartiality. They are: “Hegde was talking of his phone being tapped when I was in power, why has he stopped talking about it?; We sought a report on illegal mining from 2001. But the report has targeted me and the Reddy brothers; Who was responsible for leaking the Lokayukta report?; Why was I indicted in the report without even serving a notice or giving me an opportunity to present my defence?”
