A BBMP committee under special commissioner K Niranjan will submit its report on the cause of the fire that broke out at BMTF office, within a fortnight.

BBMP commissioner Siddaiah gave this assurance in a letter to the principal secretary, urban development, while detailing the steps being taken to prevent such accidents.

More security personnel will be deployed to ensure 24-hour vigilance in the BBMP premises. They will thoroughly check visitors to restrict their movement. Additional CCTV cameras will be installed at all corners of the buildings to monitor the movement of visitors and vehicles.

Important files related to finance, tenders, and work will be digitised and stored in places fitted with smoke detectors.
From time to time, documents pertaining to property tax, birth and death, and licences for commercial establishment and buildings will be photocopied and kept in a secure place. A disaster recovery site will be introduced.

Turning to damage caused by the fire, Siddaiah said various documents, files already disposed by the court and three files of cases under investigation stored in six almirahs were gutted.
Two photocopying machines, two UPS devices, four air-conditioners, a few chairs and a table in the IT department were badly damaged. During the fire fight, three computers, one network switch and communication cables were also damaged. Electric bulbs, fans and artificial ceiling too were destroyed.
Apart from files relating to BMTF, no important papers were gutted, the letter said.

Siddaiah also mentioned the steps the BBMP took after the fire broke out on Saturday.

On Sunday, BMTF officials and Halasuru Gate police investigated the extent of damage caused by the fire.
The same day, home and transport minister visited the spot and suggested steps to be taken to avert such incidents.
