Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa sacked two more ministers on Thursday. Balachandra Jarkiholi, minister for municipal administration and Anand Asnotikar, minister for fisheries, both members of the ruling party, were sacked. With this, the number of dissident ministers dropped is six.

On Wednesday, Yeddyurappa had dropped four ministers, Venkataramanappa, textiles minister, Shivaraj Tangadagi, minister for agricultural marketing, D Sudhakar, youth services and sports minister, and PM Narendraswamy, animal husbandry minister. All four ministers sacked on Wednesday are independent members, rewarded with ministerial positions after they extended support to the BJP government.

On Thursday, state BJP president KS Eswarappa warned rebels of bitter consequences. Party workers staged protests outside the homes of the dissidents. A group gathered outside the house of MLA Shankaralinge Gowda in Mysore and urged him to desist from rebellion. The MLA was away, and his family  faced the public ire. “We elected him because he expressed confidence in the BJP. Any change in loyalty will not be tolerated,” party workers said.

Shankarlinge Gowda’s son Nandeesh Pritam said, “We don’t know where my father is. I suspect that the JD(S) has threatened him, and taken him away to a secret location. My father was  upset that he was not granted a cabinet berth. I have no doubt that he will soon return to the BJP.”

JD(S) workers paid the MLA’s residence an unannounced visit soon afterwards, and expressed support for Shankarlinge Gowda’s rebellion. Gowda’s son, however, refused to show any sympathy, and a war of words ensued.

BJP workers stoned the Sadashivnagar home of Asnotikar. They also gathered outside the home of excise minister MP Renukacharya at Honnalli, Davangere district. Protesters locked his office and warned of dire consequences if he votes against the BJP during the trust vote on October 11. Demonstrations were also held outside the residences of Nelamangala MLA Nagaraj and Shivaraj Tangadagi, MLA from Kanakagiri, Koppal district.
