The BJP has stepped up efforts to demand the removal of Karnataka governor HR Bhardwaj.

The top brass of the party met prime minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday and petitioned him to recall Bhardwaj as he had “politicised” the Raj Bhawan.

Veteran BJP leader LK Advani led a delegation to Singh and submitted a memorandum demanding his immediate recall for “converting the Raj Bhawan into an epicentre of horse-trading”.
“We seek the recall of governor Bhardwaj.

The developments of the past few weeks have shown that notwithstanding his appointment to a constitutional office of governor, he has failed to detach himself from his political past,” the memorandum stated.

The party launched a no-holds-bar attack against Bhardwaj, who has reportedly been under intense pressure from the UPA to redeem the situation. “Extra-constitutionalism was his belief and the use of extra-constitutionalism to demonstrate loyalty was always his strategy. Remaining politically impartial is not in his nature,” BJP leader Arun Jaitley said after submitting the memorandum.

The tone of the document and the comments made by the BJP leadership indicated that the party’s agenda is to build pressure for Bhardwaj’s ouster.
