The hiccups in supply of beer, especially draught beer, is over and the brew is available in abundance, said excise minister MP Renukacharya on Tuesday.

Pubs in Bangalore and other parts of the state had to go without business for a few days after March 31 due to the hike in price of liquor from April 1. Procedural delays in enforcing the price hike has been sorted out and supply of draught beer and other liquors is normal, said Renukacharya.

He expressed confidence of exceeding the excise revenue target of `10,700 crore for the current financial year. "I am confident of mobilising more than `11,000 crore from excise. The excise revenue had seen a rise of 16.6% last year. The government is striving hard to fill state's coffers, while the leaders used to work for filling their own pockets during the earlier Congress government," Renukacharya said.
He reiterated state government's commitment for taking up drought relief works on a war footing. "I had requested a grant of `5 crore for each district to take up drought relief works. Already `4.5 crore has been released for each district. Deputy commissioners of the districts have been instructed to use the funds immediately to dig borewells, procure fodder and open cow protection centres," he said.
Refusing to be drawn into a controversy over chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda and his predecessor BS Yeddyurappa touring the state separately to understand the gravity of drought, he said that both the leaders were very responsive in redressing the plight of the people. Adequate funds have been released.
Referring to Congressige Banni, Badalavane Thanni (Join Congress and bring a change) campaign launched by the Congress, Renukacharya said the Congress' hopes of coming back to power would be shattered again.
“People will send Congress leaders to their homes instead of bringing them to power,” he added.
