The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council, which is meeting on Friday, is likely to take some major decisions regarding civic administration in the city. One of them is the introduction of a new advertisement policy, on which the council will take a decision and forward it to the state government. The new policy is aimed at fetching more revenue for BBMP, at the same time promising to preserve the city’s aesthetics.

“One of the main rules as part of the policy is to ban display of hoardings or other forms of advertisements on buildings in certain parts of the city. All existing advertisement hoardings would be removed,” said a member of the standing committee (taxation and finance). “The law is aimed at protecting lives and properties of the public,” he said.

Once it is approved, the by-laws  would be called amended by-laws of 2010 and come into effect from January 1, 2011 or from the date of approval by the government. The new by-laws should be addressed as the BBMP advertisement by-laws. As part of the policy, some zones coming under certain areas will be redistributed and new rates will be fixed for the display of advertisements or hoardings.
