The Bangalore traffic police as well as the BBMP may have decided to get rid of unscientific speed-breakers that were mushrooming across the city, but even after they were removed, they can cause accidents. The unscientific way of removing speed-breakers has kept them as dangerous as they were earlier.

The traffic police, in the last one month, have removed over 1,141 of the 1,684 speed-breakers, which caused more accidents rather than prevent them. While the traffic police went on to get rid of the hazardous speed-breakers, the BBMP never attended to the damaged road to make it smooth for motorists. As a result, motorists are at risk on the roads.

Personal experience

Robina Basith, a student of Christ University, is one such victim. “Regardless of what speed I am riding at, I lose my balance when I ride over a speed-breaker that has been recently removed. In heavy traffic, this could be extremely dangerous,” she said.
“Bike riders lose control over their vehicles when there are too many groves, and end up losing their balance. If they are unable to see that coming and control their vehicle, it could result in an accident,” she said.
