A 19-year-old college student was allegedly murdered in her house at Pai Layout near Benniganahalli on Wednesday, in Mahadevapura police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Monica Shrivastav, a native of Varanasi.
She was studying first year BCom in Bangalore City College.

Deputy commissioner of police (east) TG Krishna Bhat said the incident came to light when her elder sister Anjali came home at around 6.30 pm. She found the house was locked from inside and her repeated knocks went unanswered.

She sought her neighbours’ help to break open the door. Anjali was shocked to find her sister lying in a pool of blood.

The police, on getting information, rushed to the spot. They later called Forensic Science Laboratory experts to collect evidence from the crime scene. Finger Print Bureau and dog squad were also rushed to the spot.

Police suspect that a known person might have killed her. Monica and Anjali were staying in a rented house at the first floor of a building. Anjali, a private firm employee, had left for the duty on Wednesday morning. Later Monica too left for college to attend an examination.

At around 1.45 pm Anjali had called her sister. Monica had told her that she was tired and was going to sleep. Anjali returned home from office in the evening, only to find her dead.

An investigating officer said that somebody known to her might have killed her, as nothing was missing from the house and the door was also locked. “We are verifying whether the murderer had locked the door while fleeing or the door got locked automatically when it was shut. We are also investigating whether she was having a love affair,” he added.

He further said that Monica may have died due to stab injury and subsequent bleeding. She was murdered between 2 pm and 5 pm, he added.

The Mahadevapura police have registered a case of murder based on the complaint lodged by Anjali. The postmortem will be held on Thursday.
