The state government, on Wednesday, filed an affidavit in the high court saying that the traffic surveillance camera at KR Circle was not functioning on March 2, when violence broke out among lawyers, journalists and police on the premises of the city civil court.

The division bench on March 7 had asked the police to produce footages of the clashes, which might be in their possession. This, the court said, would help them in the perusal of the batch of public interest litigations (PILs) seeking disciplinary proceedings against the media and the police for alleged attacks on the advocates.

The government, on Wednesday, filed an affidavit in the high court’s registry.

KN Jithendranath, assistant commissioner of police, Halasurughatta subdivision, said the traffic surveillance camera at KR circle was not functioning on March 2 between 6.45 am and 9.30 pm because of the faulty uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system.

He said that auto generated short message service (SMS) was immediately sent to the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to rectify the error. However, BSNL, in their report, said they received the SMS at 6.45 am on March 2.

He said the video footage of traffic surveillance camera installed at Mysore Bank Circle from 6 am to 9 pm had been preserved in the server as well as in the DVD. It would be available to the court whenever asked for.

He said police were looking into the matter and analysing the evidence with the help of the CD provided by the advocates’ delegation. He said he had assured the advocates that if any police personnel was found to be guilty, action would be initiated against him or her.
