Bail hearings of Yeddyurappa, Somanna adjourned

The high court on Monday adjourned the anticipatory bail hearings of former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and housing minister V Somanna and his wife Shylaja to January 12.

The Lok Ayukta special court on November 22 had directed the Lok Ayukta police to conduct investigation into a private complaint filed by Krishna Reddy, software engineer, who alleged that Yeddyurappa, during his tenure as chief minister, misused his power to secure undue advantage for his aides, including Somanna and other supporters.

Further, the complainant alleged that Somanna floated VSS Educational Trust at Vijayanagar in October 2010 to cover up the ill-gotten wealth. The minister and his wife were the first and second trustees respectively.

V Somanna and his wife thereafter filed an anticipatory bail in the high court saying that they had no role in the order of denotification being done by Yeddyurappa. They said they would suffer irreparable ignominy and hardship for no fault of theirs if arrested on such false charges.

They also said Reddy had not produced any document or material to prove the alleged offences. Hence, they sought anticipatory bail. Yeddyurappa too sought anticipatory bail.

On Monday, the high court also adjourned to January 10 the hearing of the criminal petition filed by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa seeking quashing of the two corruption cases against him.
