In an event organised by the education department on Thursday, minister for primary and secondary education, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, instructed his officials how to effectively monitor and inspect the education system in classrooms. For almost an hour, he educated his officials on various issues, including how to behave with teachers, parents, and students.

He said that he is not interested in any paperwork-based inspection process. Instead, he instructed the officials to sit inside the classrooms and monitor the teaching process.

“Education department is not like a revenue department or a PWD department. Here, we cannot restrict ourselves to paperwork. There should be some level of human touch,” he said.

Kageri insisted that the inspectors visit schools and attend classes at least 10 days in a month. “There are several officials in the department, starting from block education officers to commissioners. I want each one of you to visit schools and monitor the teaching process,” he added.

He strictly instructed the department officials to not get involved in politics. “There are people who use the department for political purposes. I will not entertain such things. Our focus should be on students, and we should work towards providing them quality education,” he said.

The education department’s slogan for this year is ‘proactive administration for quality education.’ The education department has decided to bring government schools on par with private schools in the state.
