The BBMP can only work 20% to 30% for the development of the city. People too should contribute their efforts to the city well-being, said chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, after presenting the Kempegowda award to 50 persons at the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Celebrations organised by the BBMP on Friday.

He unveiled the 11 ft bronze statue of Kempegowda at Gavigangadhareshwara temple at Gavipuram in the morning.

Gowda said that the politicians should not be selfish when it comes to the development of the city. “Every politician should work selflessly for the city’s development. The power is given by the people, and every elected representative should keep up his word given to the public. Bangalore should become the hub of prosperity,” he said.

He said that the politicians should work towards Kempegowda’s dream. “The corporators should work in unison, keeping aside their party differences. As the people are facing water woes, the state government has allotted `100 crore as a special grant. If people install the RWH in their homes, the water table will increase and there will be no water problems,” he said.

Keep city clean
Gowda also requested the people to keep the city clean. He said that he will take a delegation to New Delhi to discuss the naming the BIAL as Kempegowda International Airport. “We will take up the work of installing Kempegowda statue between Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha. We are looking for the right place,” he said.

Home minister R Ashoka said that Bangalore is the oldest among other cities in the country.  Gowda said that government is also mulling over making Kempegowda Day as state holiday
Need food courts

Shivajinagar MLA Roshan Baig said that there are various five-star hotels in the city catering food to the rich people 24 hours a day. “But there is not a single hotel in the city, which opens after 12 pm for the middle-class people. The police close the shop after 12 pm. I request the chief minister to open 10 food courts in various places near hospitals and  other IT and BT centres.
