Drugs are hard to resist, particularly in a city like Bangalore where the urban crowd thinks it is ‘cool’ to abuse drugs. Youth group Terapanth Yuvak Parishad held an anti-addiction awareness drive at Surana College. The event, which was attended by commissioner of police, BG Jyothiprakash Mirji, was flagged off at Madhavan Park on Tuesday morning.

Mirji warned students to keep away from addictive substances. “You will end up being trapped. These substances may look more attractive to you and might seem glamorous but you will end up as the prey,” he said.

He also said that youth should take inspiration from parents to remain sober. “You will never be able to achieve anything once you become addicted to something. You have to look up to inspirational people to lead a risk-free and healthy life,” he added.

He also spoke about how addiction is one of the main causes of several crimes in the city. “In my years as a police officer, I have noticed that in at least 95%-98% of the major crimes committed, addiction remains a common factor. Alcohol or drugs always seem to be involved in such cases. These substances can actually turn a good man into doing some terrible things,” he
said.

He also said that it is harder to keep off substances in metro cities like Bangalore.
