Major and medium industries minister Murugesh Nirani on Monday informed the legislative assembly that out of the 389 MoUs signed at the Global Investors’ Meet (GIM), about 214 projects with a total investment of Rs2.81 lakh crore were in the process of being implemented, while another 14 projects had already been completed.

“Employment opportunities have been already created for five lakh people and within six months of conducting  GIM, 60% of the projects had taken off. If any major businessman wants to set up industry in the state, we are ready to allot land within 24 hours. And the department is also supervising the land usage after the allotment. The land allotted to industries will not be allowed to be used as real estate,” he said, replying to a question raised by the deputy leader of the opposition, TB Jayachandra.

Nirani reiterated that according to the industrial policy of the state, projects should begin within two years of the signing of the agreement failing which the allotted land would be taken back from such companies. He further said that about 480 acres of land where the projects had failed to make head way, were taken back  by the government.

On the plans to supply power and water, the minister said that during the GIM, agreements were signed to generate 18,000 MW of power from different sources. Of this, generation of about 12,000 MW would begin within three years. He said water would be supplied to the industrial areas. “Uniterrupted power supply would be ensured for 24 hours a day and for this, we are installing separate feeder lines,” he added.

He also pointed out that only 45% of the GIM projects had taken off during SM Krishna’s chief ministership, but the present government had ensured that 60% of the projects were realised within six months.
